This page is always under construction as we seek new information to update the troop history.

Please email delphostroop65@hotmail.com if you can contribute to the history of Delphos Troop 65 or other troops that previously existed in Delphos.

WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR:

bullet

Currently there is one troop in Delphos, Troop 65.  However, 25 years ago, there were two troops: 65 and 42.  Before that, there was also a Troop 48.

bullet

Past charter organizations for Troop 65 include Gressel Produce (not sure when they started, but they sponsored us in the early 1970s).

bullet

Past Scoutmasters of Troop 65 include John Giller, Robert Warniment, Bill Kohorst, William Sontag, Jr., Charles Rohrbacher, Denny Steman and Brenda Bellman.

bullet

Former Monday night meeting sites of Troop 65 include the top floor of Reliable Plumbing building, old (now-demolished) Ohio Power Co. building east of St. John's School, above the Line-Up Restaurant on Main St., and above Dodie Seller's insurance office.

bullet

Memorable trips from Troop 65 include: summer camps at Camp Lakota, Great Smokey Mountains trip, Northern Wisconsin high adventure canoe trip, Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, Council Klondikes and spring and fall Camporees, Polar Bear campouts, weekend camping and hikes.

bullet

Many may remember Troop 65's annual Tom Wat Christmas fundraiser.

bullet

Troop 65's Scouts were known to wear orange neckerchiefs.  Thanks to former Scout Claude Hoover, we know that these neckerchiefs were developed during the 60's as part of a trip to the 1964 World's Fair to New York City.  They helped to show who belonged to Troop 65, from the great city of Delphos, and that they were from Ohio (the outline of the state was on it).  [New!]

bullet

Troop 65 traveled in their orange bus (old school bus), which was later replaced by a blue bus known as the Blue Goose.

bullet

Troop 42 was chartered by St. John's Catholic Church.

bullet

Past Scoutmasters of Troop 42 included Gerald Will and Ben Kill.

bullet

Before belonging to the current Black Swamp Area Council, the troops belonged to the Shawnee Council.
