Scouts reach Eagle

The Delphos Herald

03/26/2007

DELPHOS — An Eagle Scout Court of Honor was held on Sunday to honor three new Eagle Scouts from Delphos Troop 65.  The newly-inducted Eagle Scouts are Michael, Zach and John.  The three are all seniors at Jefferson High School.

Michael is the son of Greg and Kim.  For his Eagle project, he chose to help the Delphos Soccer Association by repairing and constructing a welcome bulletin board with a map of the fields, repairing the bleachers used by fans and painting lines on the parking lot.  On his way to Eagle, Michael earned a total of 34 merit badges, was inducted into the Order of the Arrow and was awarded the Brotherhood Scout of the Year Award.  Besides scouting, he has been involved in band, soccer, track, class play, National Honor Society and Junior Optimists.  He plans to attend college to major in engineering.

Zach is the son of Michael and Alice.  For his Eagle project, he worked with the Delphos VFW in the construction and dedication of the Delphos Veterans Memorial Park.  He was involved in planning the layout of the donor bricks and in cataloging their location to honor our local veterans.  Zach earned a total of 32 merit badges and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow and earned the religious emblem "On My Honor."  Outside of scouting, Zach has been involved with band, soccer, track and the high school quiz bowl team.  He is a member of the National Honor society and served as the local delegate to Buckeye Boys State.  He plans to attend college and major in either engineering or accounting.

John is the son of Barry and Cheryl.  For his eagle project, he worked with the Department of National Resources to construct duck boxes to be placed along the Miami and Erie Canal in Delphos for the protection of wildlife.  On his way to Eagle, John earned a total of 33 merit badges and was also inducted into the Order of the Arrow.  He has worked at McDonald's since November 2003 and in his spare time has participated in soccer, football, wrestling and is a current member of the National Honor Society.  He plans to attend college in Cincinnati to major in mortuary science.
