In accordance with our web policy, Josh's last name has been omitted, and where necessary, changed to his first name. We extended this policy to the names of Josh's classmate helpers. The article also included two pictures with the following captions: #1: Delphos Children's Librarian Denise Cressman, left, and her assistant, Donna Maas, try out the new puppet theater Josh completed for his Eagle Scout project. Josh and his classmate helpers also constructed two puppet storage boxes. #2: Josh S. and Ashley A. paint the detailing on the puppet stage in Josh's yard. Josh said the project took about 110 hours to complete. Curtain goes up on Eagle Scout project at library By Nancy Briggs The Delphos Herald
The Delphos Public Library Children's Department is the beneficiary of a local teen's Eagle Scout project. Two puppet storage boxes and a puppet theater arrived at the library on Wednesday. Josh, 18, son of Kathy and Doug, started the project several weeks ago and enlisted the help of some of his classmates. "My part of the project was actually to price the supplies, get the plans together and oversee the work," the Jefferson student said. Ashley A., Keith B., Josh O., Charles F. and Erin B. helped with the 110-hour project. Children's Librarian Denise Cressman suggested the storage boxes and stage. "When Josh called me and asked if he could do anything for the children's library, puppet storage came to my mind first," she said. "We are always hauling the puppets up and down the stairs for Storytime and other programs and they will stay in better shape this way." Josh has spent the last 12 years in the scouting program, with this father by his side. "We've both always been involved in scouting," the younger said. "I knew that being an Eagle Scout really looks good on my resume." His mother said he was also motivated by another benefit of the designation. "When Josh found out that he could start in the Army at a higher rank and get better pay with Eagle Scout on his application, he jumped at it," she said. "It was totally his decision. We just supported him." The library board of trustees reimbursed Josh for $140 worth of materials for the project at Wednesday's meeting. When Josh is not Scouting, he enjoys fishing, camping and hiking and is active in choir, show choir, band, track and his youth group at Trinity United Methodist Church.
